THE FIGHTER

This is the story of Prizefighter 'Irish' Micky Ward's rise to gain the Light Welterweight Championship of the World in 2000. Director David O. Russell's view into the boxer's life in the epitome of blue collar America, Lowell Massachusetts is riveting.

Irish Mic's world contains a loving, volatile-druggie, half brother/trainer named Dickie, a suffocating, officious mother, played beautifully by Melissa Leo, a well intentioned father and bevy of ever-present sisters with the nicknames Pork, Red Dog, Tar and Beaver.

Together with his fearless girlfriend Amy Adams (not playing a nun is this one, by golly, think DOUBT), he must pull free of them if he is to fulfill his dream.
