When a naive young women remains loyal to brutal circus strong-man Zampano, the result is a moving film that explores the urgency between desire and loneliness, loyalty and abandonment. Zampano's retrospection in the final scene makes the viewer a breathless witness to a man's meltdown into bottomless sorrow. Unforgettable.
