The film's star, Sally Hawkins, plays a giggling, gabby, eye rolling, face making, irrepressibly upbeat 30 year old Londoner named Poppy. The punch of the film comes from an ongoing tension between Poppy and her tightly wound driving instructor Scott, which ultimately draws out a calmer, kinder and more mature Poppy.
