This is a movie about unexpected, abject depravation, that turns into a kind of celebration of the human spirit. The viewer would have been taken through senseless claustrophobia and terror were it not for the beauty in the film and the uncanny kindness of the characters. This fierce and lovely film is not to be missed. Julian Schnabel’s third film is a masterpiece.
