Let me peak the curiosity of the reader by saying that this is the most beautifully shot American film they are ever likely to see. Forgive my pretentiousness, but I am still heavily puffed by every gorgeous frame and by the long, poignant close ups that may even have caused Bergman to raise an eyebrow. Colin, Julianne, Nicholas and Matthew are magnificent, but so are the half dozen not so minor roles that punctuate their journeys. Have I mentioned the music!
This is an art film about the consequences of separation that deserves an honored place in the vault of priceless cinema.
