Fellini uses twenty seamlessly interwoven segments to depict remembrances of his early life in a Italian coastal town in the 1930's. The film opens with a Spring festival to burn the Snow Witch , add encounters with nasty Fascists, dancing harem wives, the celebrated arrival of courtesans down the main street of the town, a crazy uncle and a devious uncle, a volatile Father, a mothering mother, a wandering nymphomaniac, priests contesting his sexual fantasies and spiritual vigor, his infatuation with an older women, the death of his mother, more. Fellini treats us to the exuberance of life in a way that has never been matched on screen. Magnifico!
