This charming movie-opera about young love is played-out without a big dance number or a duet or even a single spoken line. Every word, from the ecstatic to the commonplace is beautifully sung. If that weren’t enough, the movie sustains the most extravagant and inventive use of color I’ve ever seen in a film.
